LA PINE, Ore. – Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of a military-type grenade Saturday.
Deputies say around 2:47 p.m. they were dispatched to Burgess Road near Ponderosa on a report of a military-type grenade on the side of the road. Deputies say a person conducting litter patrol found the device and called deputies.
Deputies say the grenade was found in an area of open land, with no homes or structures nearby. They say the grenade is believed to have been there for some time.
The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad was contacted and responded to collect the grenade. OSP indicated the grenade was a military training grenade that had been re-activated and was presently dangerous.
Officials say it’s unknown how the grenade was placed there, but there was no indication of an intentional criminal action.
