SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A first of its kind drop site in Lane County that will serve some of our smallest residents.
PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend officially opened up its milk drop site Monday, in the surgery lobby.
Second time mother Toni Ramme was the first to donate; she dropped off more than 100 ounces. She says she felt terrible dumping unused milk with her first child, so when she heard about the site she jumped on the chance to donate.
“I also actually had a close friend who had a premature baby six weeks old and she needed to use milk, donated milk for the first couple of weeks, until she was able to get nursing going,” said Ramme.
The milk will be given to the babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and those in pediatrics as needed. Potential donors need to contact Northwest Mothers Milk Bank to schedule a preliminary screening.
