Missing Mushroom Pickers Found in Forest

MARION COUNTY, Ore. — Two mushroom pickers were rescued this weekend after getting lost in forest off Highway 22.

Seach & Rescue teams from the Marion and Linn County sheriff’s offices received two calls Saturday evening about two missing mushroom pickers from separate groups near McCoy Road and Highway 22.

They searched for 31-year-old Hun Meas and 56-year-old Deena Maria Scalia, both of Salem, who became separated from their groups. Scalia was found shortly before midnight. Searchers found Meas at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday along Road 510. Meas and Scalia were both unharmed.

Search teams say neither person had overnight supplies, food or extra clothes. They want to remind people of how easy it is for someone to become lost when distracted while picking mushrooms. They encourage hikers and mushroom pickers to stay together and to bring extra food, water and shelter.
