JUNCTION CITY, Ore. — The Aerobeez Monster Fest kicks off at the airport this weekend. Planes will be taking off and landing, but there won’t be pilots up in the planes. Instead, they’ll be controlling from the ground.
This weekend, 60 pilots from Iowa, California, Washington and Oregon will showcase their radio control planes. The planes, which have wingspans of about seven feet wide, range in price from $2,500 to $10,000. The larger the plane, the more power it delivers.
“We have one guy from Portland that will have a plane doing 135 to 240 miles per hour. It only lasts a couple of minutes, but it will be interesting to see,” says Mike Winklepleck with Eugene RC Aeronauts.
Spectators will get a show, and anyone interested can sign up to fly. Members of Eugene RC Aeronauts will provide a plane and a control box. The free air show is Saturday and Sunday at Henson Field in Junction City.
