PORTLAND, Ore. — The boy hit while crossing Main Street in Springfield Wednesday night is recovering in Portland.
Kaleb Oyervidas’ injuries are extensive. His mother, Crystal, thinks his survival is nothing short of a miracle.
“I am very shaken about this, but I am thankful that he is ok,” said Oyervidas.
She says she as been at her son Kaleb’s side since he was hit by the car. She says the accident was terrible.
“It’s horrible to run out to your son laying on the ground when you just seen him a second ago saying ‘Mom, I love you’,” said Crystal.
Kaleb was taken to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland and is in the ICU.
“He has no brain injury, no spinal injury. However, he has 6 broken ribs he has a fractured pelvis he has a puncture in his lung he has lacerations on his face and a broken humerus bone with a shattered elbow they just had to put pins in.”
Despite those many injuries, Crystal says Kaleb is an amazing, special kid.
“It’s a little scary though because he has no idea what’s going on. He’s going to wake up very scared,” said Crystal. “The most important thing is being here sitting with him and keeping him calm letting him know he is going to be ok.”
Friends are rallying around the boy and have set up a fund to help with medical costs.
“Help would be greatly appreciated thats for sure.”
Kaleb will have a long road ahead, but the family says they’re comforted knowing one thing.
“There were angels watching over him because he is still here.”
