Motorcade to Honor Philomath Soldier

PHILOMATH, Ore. — Yellow ribbons are flying throughout Philomath, honoring Spc. Cody Patterson who died in Afghanistan last week.

On Thursday, a motorcade will travel through town, between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Police will come down 19th Street in Philomath and do a loop down Main Street, Applegate Street, all the way down to 7th Street.

One Philomath resident says the yellow ribbons and his fond memories of Patterson make the Afghanistan War more real.

“I think that it makes it more real, this conflict,” said Philomath resident Bryan Bernart. “Because someone from this community has passed away. Moreso than other casualties, I suppose. It always is more personal when somebody you’ve actually known has actually gone and has been killed in combat.”

Patterson’s memorial service will be on Sunday, Oct. 20 at LaSells Stewart Center in Corvallis at 2 p.m.
