Motorcyclist Dies in HWY 97 Crash

MADRAS, Ore. — Oregon State Police says the motorcyclist involved in a Highway 97 crash on August 8 has died.

Troopers say Donald W. Heckathorn, 64, of Madras, died Wednesday from the injuries he received in a crash at the intersection of Highway 97 and Dover Lane south of Madras.

OSP says around 3 p.m. a Cadillac four-door driven by Gerald S. Green, 36, of Prineville, was driving eastbound on Dover Lane when he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with Heckathorn who was driving his Harley Davidson northbound on Highway 97.

Heckathorn was transported by air ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with serious injuries. He was wearing a protective helmet. Green was not injured.

OSP and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office are continuing their investigation. An enforcement decision has not been made at this time.
