Mount Ashland Cancels Season

mount ashlandASHLAND, Ore. – Officials at the Mount Ashland Ski Area have announced that they will not open this season, marking the first time in its 50-year history it has failed to open for skiers and snowboarders.

In an email sent Friday morning, officials explained that the mountain had received less than a foot of snow at lower elevations, which is not enough to open the ski slopes. It means that the ski area will not open at all this season. No indication was made about what it will mean for the future of the ski area.

Officials said there are two options for people who purchased season passes this season. One option lets people to return their season pass and receive a tax-deductible donation for the 2014 tax year. Another option allows current pass holders to purchase a season pass next year at a 50 percent discount.

Pass holders are asked to call the Mount Ashland business office after April 1 at 541-482-2897, or send an e-mail to eparrish@mtashland.com.
