UPDATE from ODOT (12:58 p.m.) : One lane is now open on southbound I-5, three miles north of Albany. However, there are long lines of vehicles waiting to travel after a series of multiple vehicle crashes earlier. Motorists should avoid travel on I-5 from Albany to Eugene. While a single lane has been reopened, there could be intermittent lane closures and intermittent complete closures while tow trucks continue to remove disabled vehicles.
Meantime, ODOT crews from Lane County have been positioned in Linn County to help with snow removal. The many crashes on I-5 in Linn County have tied-up ODOT resources, reducing the ability of ODOT crews there to plow and sand the highway. Therefore, ODOT is deploying additional resources to the area.
ALBANY, Ore. — Officials say southbound I-5 is closed three miles north of Albany after a crash involving as many as 20 vehicles. A detour will be in place. Drivers should avoid the area or expect delays.
ODOT crews are responding to multiple crashes on I-5, OR 58 and US 101. ODOT crews are sanding and plowing the areas, but drivers should cancel travel if possible.
