COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. — Two men are charged in the death of a Cottage Grove man.
Terry Fruichantie (pictured above) died during a home invasion back in January.
Robert Smith is charged with killing Fruichantie along with a number of other charges relating to the home invasion.
Kenneth Lee is charged with robbery, burglary and tampering with physical evidence.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office says Smith and Lee entered Fruichantie’s home in January armed and wearing ski masks.
They allegedly confronted Fruichantie and tried to rob him. After a brief struggle, deputies say Smith then shot Fruichantie. Both men ran from the scene.
The sheriff’s office spent the past five months investigating the case.
Deputies finally found Lee in Blue River, and Smith was in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office.
“It’s nice to have suspects in custody for sure. I am not sure that it really gives a lot of closure for family members deceased but it certainly represents some of the fruits of the labor from all of the different agencies that were involved in this,” said Sgt. Carrie Carver.
Smith’s being held without bail at the Lane County Jail.
At the time of the shooting and invasion, neighbors told KEZI 9 News that Fruichantie was a truck driver and had always been a good neighbor.
