COOS COUNTY, Ore. — The Coos County Grand Jury has handed down an indictment charging Edward Nelson in a triple homicide from over the weekend. The indictment charges Nelson with six counts of aggravated murder and three counts of arson.
Nelson allegedly killed his wife, Kathleen, and the couple next door, Renae and Lola Cottam, then set both houses on fire.
The Districy Attorney says the autopsies on the couple were completed Thursday afternoon and it was determind they both died of gunshot wounds. A positive identification of their bodies is still too difficult because of the fire, but DNA testing will be done to officially identify them.
The Cottam family says instead of gifts, they would like people to donate money to the Myrtle Point Public Library foundation in their honor.
Nelson is scheduled back in court on the new indictment on June 25.
