NCAA Settlement in Head Injury Lawsuit

NCAA(CNN) — The NCAA reached a $75 million settlement with the NCAA and dozens of college athletes in a class action suit over head injuries.

The suit includes nearly 30 athletes from many universities and several contact sports. Some of them played as far back as the 1970s.

If a federal judge accepts Tuesday’s deal, the NCAA would have to change the way teams handle players who suffer head injuries. It would prevent an athlete with a concussion from returning to play the same day.

The settlement also includes $70 million for screening for athletes who suspect brain injuries, and $5 million for research.
