SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A sense of community while stressing safety–that’s the focus in Springfield Tuesday night during National Night Out.
Springfield police and local neighborhood watch programs will be at six different parks throughout Springfield spreading the word about safety, crime and drug prevention and neighborhood watch.
People can meet McGruff the Crime Dog, police officers, and volunteers from Neighborhood Watch programs.
Event organizers say the reasoning behind this night out is for people to meet their neighbors, because by getting to know your neighbors you’re more likely to recognize suspicious circumstances.
The festivities will take place at Guy Lee, Willamalane, Meadow, Tyson, Volunteer and Thurston Park from 6-8 p.m.
Event organizers say there will be plenty of fun for everyone in the family.
Representatives from more than 50 neighborhood watch programs will be at the parks to recruit new members.
