Neighbors Share Books at Exchange Box

RRR EXCHANGE BOXEUGENE, Ore. — A Eugene couple is making the most of old books laying around their house, and they’re doing it in a unique way by getting everyone involved.

Drive down Cal Young Road, and you can’t help but notice it sitting at the intersection with Norkenzie.

It’s not a birdhouse as some have asked the homeowners. They call it the Neighbors’ Exchange Box.¬†Anyone can take or leave something in the box.

Richard Davis, who built the box, says his wife came up with the idea to socialize with neighbors and people¬†walking by. And she’s put more than just books inside.

“She put some dog treats in it. It’s kind of a social experiment. We want to see what it develops into,” Davis said.

Davis says most of the box was built from recycled material bought from BRING recycling.
