EUGENE, Ore. — A new bus service is offering affordable fares to Portland, starting on Thursday.
BoltBus will take several round trips from Eugene to Portland Thursday through Monday, making one stop in Albany. During the two-hour ride, passengers can enjoy leather seats and the extra leg room that the bus has to offer. The bus also has free wi-fi onboard and power outlets to charge electronic devices like laptops and tablets.
The bus may be painted orange, but as general manager David Hall points out, it’s green all the way when it comes to reducing carbon emissions.
“The diesel engine technology is the latest and greatest and very, very clean and environmental,” says Hall, “and the beauty of it . . . we take 40 to 50 people on a bus, and taking that many cars off the road, which certainly has a big carbon impact.”
BoltBus is offering its first passengers a super-low fare of just $1 until Sunday. After that, fares will range from $10 to $15, depending on demand. The bus also offers a loyalty program: passengers who take eight trips get one trip for free.
Tickets for Thursday are sold out, but there are still seats available for Friday and the weekend. You can buy tickets and find more information on the BoltBus website.
