New Details About Local Murder Victims

Near EUGENE, Ore.– A Lane County resident is being charged with killing two people, his father and another woman, at their home on Needham Road near Lorane Highway. 36-year-old Johan Gillette allegedly murdered 73-year old James Gillette, known as Jim, and 71-year-old Anne McLucas. Gillette was found dead and McLucas injured, when a friend came to check in on them. McLucas later died of her injuries at the hospital. Neighbors say Jim Gilette was notorious in the rural neighborhood for his history of debate with the county, over what he wanted to do with his 650-acres of land. According to the University of Oregon’s website, Anne McLucas was a professor of music at the School of Music and Dance. She was also a former dean of the school for 10-years. Investigators say many people lived on the property that has two houses and multiple dwellings. No word yet on how the victims were killed.

We are saddened to hear about Jim and Ann. We have known Jim for many years and boated and traveled with them. We also stayed with them on our way to and from Palm Springs. Jim was a generous, fun loving and very active friend, as was Ann. We will miss our friends! Jim had expressed on more than one occasion that he feared his son and what he felt he could be capable of because of his size and mental problems.
