New Rural Unemployment Program

EUGENE, Ore. — A big donation means big things for St. Vincent de Paul’s new rural employment assistance program.

Wells Fargo gave the nonprofit a $25,000 grant Friday afternoon to help launch the new employment program called REAL. It will provide one-on-one help to Lane County’s lower-income rural residents and even some veterans.

“This is an excellent way for us to reach out to those people and say, you don’t have to be stuck here. We can develop your jobs either in this community or somewhere else out there, and try and make you more marketable,” said Terry McDonald, St. Vincent de Paul Executive Director.

A good chunk of the donation will go toward a new computer lab at the Florence location where participants can build resumes, learn computer programs, and apply for jobs online.
