New UO Journalism School Building Opens

EUGENE, Ore. — Spirits were high among University of Oregon journalism students who started winter term in a new building.

After 18 months and $15 million, the newly designed Allen Hall re-opened Monday.

The three-story transformation added 18,000 square feet of space, which now holds more classrooms, labs and study spaces. Students say the new design helps mimic real-life media agencies.

“We’ve seen a total transformation both in building material as well as sort of moral of the students that are here and coming in new or have been here in the past and seeing this for the first time. It’s a really exciting day,” said Alina Padilla-Miller, UO doctoral student and Graduate Teaching Fellow.

A fun and interactive feature of the building–students can project images on magnetic walls.
