Next Step for Obie Development Project

EUGENE, Ore. — It’ll be years before crews break ground on a new development in downtown Eugene.

The Lane County Board of Commissioners approved the $67 million proposal this week that will include housing, retail space, a movie theater and grocery store.

Lane County Commissioner Jay Bozievich says the developer, Brian Obie, has three to four years to do an environmental assessment before anything can start.

“So he’s got to go through these environmental assessments. He’s got to do the public hearings, get a preliminary design all finished up and start through the city planning process and building permit processes,” Bozievich said.

Bozievich says we probably won’t see dirt turned over for several years.
