No Contest Plea After Fatal Crash

1-24 carrigan mugALBANY, Ore. — A woman is pleading no contest to multiple charges after a car crash a year and a half ago that killed an Oregon State University student.

On Tuesday, 37-year-old Valorie Carrigan of Blodgett pleaded no contest to criminally negligent homicide and assault in the third degree.

Oregon State Police say she tried changing lanes on Highway 34 in September 2012, and hit a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Chelsea Duffy.

Police say Duffy lost control, crossed into oncoming traffic, and hit another vehicle head on. She died at the scene.

Carrigan’s sentencing is set for April 15.
