Smoking Banned Inside Autzen

EUGENE, Ore. — The University of Oregon is one of several Oregon schools going smoke-free. The policy goes into effect just in time for game day.

Previously fans were able to smoke on the concourses and in open areas outside of the seating bowl.

While many smokers protested being forced out, starting September 1, smoking will be banned on all UO property, including areas used by tailgaters outside Duck football games at Autzen.

“We’re hopeful that they’ll abide by the new rules that we have in Autzen Stadium, and our fans are great. So we really don’t anticipate that there will be any problems with it. It is going to be a change and we think that fans will adapt accordingly,” said Craig Pintens, Senior Associate Athletic Director.

School leaders say signs will be posted and the area will be monitored.
