North Bend Promotes Pedestrian Safety

NORTH BEND, Ore. – The North Bend Police Department will conduct a Pedestrian Safety Operation Monday.

Officers will use a decoy pedestrian to remind motorist to stop and yield to pedestrians waiting to cross the street. Warning signs will be posted prior to entering the pedestrian safety operation zone to remind drivers.

Police say motorists are required to stop at all crosswalks when there is a vehicle already stopped in the adjacent lane. They hope to raise awareness of this and the other current Oregon pedestrian right of way laws.

The event will take place at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Marion Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Funding for the pedestrian safety operations came from a grant from the Bicycle Transportation Alliance and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
