Obama to Visit Washington Landslide Area

OSO landslideOSO, Wash. (CNN) — President Obama will visit Washington state Tuesday to mark the grim one-month anniversary since a devastating mudslide left behind a graveyard of debris.

Obama will tour the area and meet with rescue crews and the relatives of victims.

The rain-saturated hillside along the Stillaguamish River gave way on March 22. It unleashed walls of mud that swallowed up roads and homes on the outskirts of the rural town of Oso.

Authorities said Monday the death toll has risen to 41.

After his visit, Obama will embark on a four-country tour to Asia to convince Pacific allies the U.S. remains focused on them.
