WASHINGTON, D.C.– The U. S. Labor Department says the unemployment rate increased slightly in October.
The new jobs report released Friday shows that the percentage of Americans looking for work increased from 7.8% to 7.9%.
Overall, 171,000 jobs were added in October. Analysts say the new report shows that the country is still on the path to recovery. They say the slight increase in the unemployment rate is due more to people actively searching for jobs, not people out of work.
This month’s job report may be the most important though. With only a few days before Election Day, both President Obama and Republican Mitt Romney are expected to seize upon the results.
