Officer Shoots Springfield Man

Travis Cress

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — The Springfield Police Department says an officer shot an armed man after he refused to drop his weapons.

Police arrived on the 1600 block of  1st Street late last night after 30-year-old Travis Cress posted suicidal statements on his Facebook page. They say Cress was uncooperative and that he threatened to start shooting if officers didn’t leave the property. Shortly before 11:30 p.m., police say Cress exited the back door of the home, carrying two firearms. They say that Cress refused to drop his weapons and a police officer shot him.

Cress was sent to a local hospital, where he is in serious condition. No other injuries were reported. The Springfield Police Department says the officer who shot Cress will be put on administrative leave while the case is investigated.
