PETALUMA, Calif. — ABC affiliate station KGO is reporting one person has died in a small plane crash in Marin County on the border of Petaluma and Novato after leaving from Brookings, Oregon. The crash set off a small grass fire near Hicks Valley and Marshall-Petaluma Road.
According to preliminary information from the FAA, the pilot of a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza flying from Brookings, Oregon, to San Carlos, reported engine trouble around 9:30 p.m. Monday. The pilot indicated he would try to make it to Gnoss Field in Novato. Air traffic controllers lost radar and radio contact with the plane shortly after that.
The FAA believes the pilot was the only person on board.
