Opportunity Village Reps Hold Discussion

EUGENE, Ore. — The Eugene City Council wants a list of potential sites for a homeless village. This doesn’t mean the project is a go or a no.

But Wednesday councilors voted 7 to 1 to direct city staff to compile a list of possible sites that could serve as a spot for Opportunity Village Eugene.

The sites should be city owned and at least one acre in size. This list will also provide information about whether these sites are near a neighborhood.

“There will be more conversation about the basic concept that we are proposing of a self-governed village, and we look forward to having that conversation, and that will come but we feel good about the action that they did take today,” said Dan Bryant, Opportunity Village Eugene Chairman.

City staff will present this list in two weeks on Oct. 31.
