VENETA, Ore. — Organizers of the Oregon Country Fair restored an iconic structure after it was damaged last week.
Charles Ruff, the country fair general manager, says the dragon structure near the entrance was set on fire Thursday night. He says they’re not sure if it’s vandalism, but the fire didn’t start on its own. The entire structure wasn’t damaged, but much of it’s being reworked for the fair.
Ruff says fair organizers are focusing on the positive.
“The body of the dragon that we use for different event structures suffered significant damage so we will be looking at rebuilding and revisioning that and so, it’ll be an interesting thing. It’ll be an opportunity for folks to come see what new life we breathe into that dragon,” Ruff said.
Ruff says authorities were notified and they’re still investigating.
