VENETA, Ore. — The Oregon Country Fair got under way Friday afternoon by kicking things off with the traditional opening ceremonies.
The crowds gathered around the main stage to honor the earth as a sacred element.
Numerous speakers led the crowd in breathing exercises and prayers.
Then a world tree was presented and planted in a clay vessel filled with earth from around the world.
The tree will also be watered with sacred fair water from last year’s event.
The crowds were blessed and encouraged to focus and give loving attention to their planet earth.
The event was a spiritual and seemingly heartfelt way to start the fair.
