Oregon First Lady Visits St. Vinnie’s

EUGENE, Ore. — Governor Kitzhaber’s partner, who he’s named first lady, visited Eugene Thursday for a look at St. Vincent de Paul’s homelessness and low-income efforts.

Cylvia Hayes toured three of St. Vincent de Paul’s sites, each utilizing different recycling operations and ways to service Lane County’s less fortunate.

Hayes says it’s some of the most innovative work she’s seen.

“They’re providing jobs. They’re pulling what once was in a landfill back out and making value added products and generating a lot of economic activity,” Hayes said.

Hayes says she was introduced to St. Vincent de Paul’s successes after learning about a multi-million dollar grant the organization received from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
