EUGENE, Ore. — A local orthodontist is stepping up to make sure kids from one Eugene school get rewarded for their perfect attendance.
Dr. Gary Greive’s office neighbors Willagillespie School.
He heard through a patient that the school’s principal didn’t have the money to take 35 students with perfect attendance to an end-of-the-school-year lunch.
So, Greive treated the kids, instead.
“For me it’s a big deal, helping out needy kids in our system that are successful in attending school brings to tears to my eyes. It’s fairly a big deal, and it’s no big deal for me to buy lunch,” Greive said.
The program started five years ago with only three children who had perfect attendance.
The principal says she is going to have to look for funding to keep the program going.
