LA PINE, Ore. – Oregon State Police say a La Pine man was arrested Monday after eluding police on a motorcycle.
OSP says around 11 a.m., a trooper attempted to stop a motorcycle for license and equipment violations near Highway 97. The motorcycle’s driver attempted to elude the trooper by driving onto US Forest Service land.
The pursuit ended because of poor visibility as the motorcycle traveled on dirt roads, but the trailing dirt cloud kept the motorcycle in sight.
Troopers say the motorcycle eventually traveled off the dirt road and into the woods. They followed the tire tracks on foot for about a mile and found the motorcycle abandoned. Troopers then followed foot prints until they ended at the base of a tree.
OSP says a man and woman were found hiding in a hunter’s tree stand up the tree. Troopers arrested the man, identified as Chris Campbell, 30, of La Pine, for felony attempt to elude on a vehicle, misdemeanor attempt to elude on foot, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person. He was lodged in Deschutes County Jail.
The 30-year-old female passenger was not arrested.
