OSP Investigates Fatal RV Fire

FLORENCE, Ore. — Oregon State Police and the Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing their investigation into the death of a person found Saturday night inside a fire-damaged recreational vehicle.

Around 8:30 p.m., OSP, Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue, and Mapleton Fire District responded to two recreational vehicles on fire along Highway 126, about 15 miles east of Florence. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fires.

Inspection of the recreational vehicles led to the discovery of the remains of one person and a dog inside one of the vehicles and a deceased dog in the other.

The Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 52-year-old Patricia Eilene Howell. The medical examiner says there were no suspicious injuries that indicated Howell’s death was from something other than fire-related.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
