OSU Beaver Store Opens

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The new Beaver Store opened Tuesday on Oregon State University’s campus, and sports fans say they are thrilled.

New buildings are sprouting up all over OSU’s campus, largely because of more state funding. But the bookstore, a non-profit, moved down 26th Street to a brand new facility.

“This building has been in the works for about 24 months,” said Merchandise Manager Erik Anderson. “So it’s been a long time coming. You see your blood, sweat, and tears come pouring out into a store, and it’s really exciting to see it all come together.”

One fan wore orange today just for the occasion. Chaney Sannan, who says her classroom is filled with orange and black Beaver gear, couldn’t wait for the new store to open.

“It’s awesome,” Sannan said. “It looks really nice. Little details all over the place. Even the way they have folded the clothes to look so nice.”

The new building is 50,000 square feet, much larger than the previous building’s 30-35,000 square-foot space.

“We think everyone’s going to love the location,” said Steve Clark, Vice President of University Relations and Marketing. “And really appreciate the new features and the great new size. It’s just huge!”

Though the new store still sells text books, some people are wondering what happened to the rest of the books.

“The only thing that didn’t make the move with us was the general book department,” Anderson said. “We decided to expand the apparel department to better serve our membership.”

The Beaver Store says OSU gear is what most customers want.

“And everything that you spend here in the apparel department will help us generate course book discounts,” Anderson said. “So as a non-profit, everything that we generate through our merchandise side is re-invested in textbook discounts.”

The new store isn’t called the “Bookstore” anymore, it’s called the “Beaver Store.”

“As a Beaver fan, if you’re having a bad day and you come in here, you should be having a good day,” Anderson said.

Anderson says the store will be like Grand Central Station on Beaver game days. The store sits between Reser Stadium, Gill Coliseum, and Goss Stadium.

“I’m really excited right now,” Sannan said. “I’m like a little kid in a candy shop. This is so exciting for me.”

The store’s grand opening event is on Sept. 21 from 8 am – 5 pm. Special autograph signings from AC Green, Gary Payton, and Pat Casey will be from 10:30 am – noon at the Beaver Store.
