NEWPORT, Ore. — The OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center is getting a $15,000 grant to expand, but many are looking back and remembering the center’s first resident director.
The university is remembering Lavern Weber. He died earlier this week at the age of 80.
“He really built the Marine Science Center programs and developed a relationship with the community that I don’t think existed before he became the director of the center,” said John Byrne, OSU President Emeritus.
A memorial service is still being planned.
The grant from Lincoln County will help pay to expand the center with a new classroom and lab.
