OSU Treats Horse for Equine Flu

CORVALLIS, Ore. — A horse from Eastern Oregon is being treated at Oregon State University for equine influenza virus.

The four-year-old quarter horse mare will remain in isolation at OSU until it fully recovers. The horse originally came from Texas and was bought at a sale in Hermiston last weekend.

OSU and the state’s veterinarian office are working to let veterinarians and horse owners know about the respiratory disease, which is highly contagious in horses, but it’s typically not fatal. Vets say humans and other animals cannot get it.
