Overturned Truck Blocks HWY 126E

VIDA, Ore. — The driver of a semi-trailer and passenger are recovering after a rollover wreck this morning on Highway 126 east, near Vida.

It happened at around 6:30 p.m. Oregon State Police says the truck drifted on to the shoulder. They say Frank Benson of California, steered it back left but the trailer struck a tree and power pole, overturned and came to a stop blocking both lanes.

A man living across the street feared the truck would come barrelling into his home.

“I was waiting for it to hit my house. I was preparing for it to hit my house because it was so loud,” said witness Barry Barrett.

Benson was taken to the hospital and cited for failing to maintain lane of travel. A passenger from California was air-lifted to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Lane Electric says about 425 customers were temporarily without power.
