CRESWELL, Ore. — An attempted kidnapping has the Creswell community on high alert.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office says it happened at the corner of South 7th Street and Barber Drive around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

They say a mom called in, to report that a man claiming to know her tried to lure her son into his car.

The boy didn’t know the man, so he took off running toward his home, and the suspect reportedly didn’t try to chase after him.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office says the school has been notified about the situation.

“The school district has had extra people watching for this individual making sure students are getting home safely when they leave school grounds,” said Sgt. Doug Osbourne.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 36 years old wearing a baseball cap and red jacket, driving a green SUV.

If you know anything about this case, call the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
