Near PLEASANT HILL, Ore. — A Fall Creek area man was sent to the hospital after being hit by a car just north of Pleasant Hill. Police say the man got out of the SUV he was riding in to approach a driver honking behind him.
Oregon State Police say 36-year-old Timothy Jarvis of Eugene hit 35-year-old Alejandro Perez around 3:30 p.m. An SUV was stopped on Parkway Road, just south of Wheeler Road, waiting to turn left into a mill to pick up a family member employed there. A Dodge Neon was behind the SUV, reportedly honking its horn. The SUV’s passenger, Perez, got out to approach the car. The Neon pulled out into northbound traffic to pass the SUV. A van traveling northbound, driven by Jarvis, passed between the cars and couldn’t avoid hitting Perez when he stepped into the lane.
Perez was in critical condition yesterday, but OSP says his injuries were non-life threatening. Oregon State Police will turn the case over to Lane County’s district attorney who will then determine if one or more people should be charged with any crimes or traffic violations.
