PHILOMATH, Ore. — The Philomath School District received a $253,467 grant from the Oregon Department of Education for its tech-ed programs.
The grant will help pay for more equipment and programs at the middle and high schools. The district plans to expand the manufacturing program at the high school with equipment and software used in the field.
Philomath High School manufacturing teacher Scott Ballard said: “Statistically we know that not everyone’s going to go to college for four years – and we have kids that want to work. They’re excited about going to work and working with their hands. But we need to prepare them because the skill sets now are different than they were when I graduated 30 years ago.”
Students at the high school will also get to take new classes in building and construction.
