Police Arrest Albany Woman for ID Theft

KachelALBANY, Ore. — Police arrested an Albany woman on theft and identity theft charges Friday.

Investigators with Oregon State Police and the┬áCorvallis Police Department┬ásaid 34-year-old Merideth Kachel allegedly stole a man’s backpack in January from inside the Women’s Building on the Oregon State University campus, which had the man’s ID and credit cards.

OSP said the man’s credit card was used at Corvallis-area Fred Meyer and Safeway stores.

On Friday morning, police served a search warrant in the 3000 block of 21st Avenue SE in Albany and arrested Kachel after recovering the victim’s belongings there.

She was lodged in the Linn County Jail for ID theft, second-degree theft, second-degree criminal trespass and fraudulent use of a credit card. OSP cited KACHEL to appear in Benton County Circuit Court on the same charges associated with the OSP investigation.

Police are continuing the investigation.
