Police Investigate Dumpster Fire

EUGENE, Ore. — The Eugene Police Department says an overnight dumpster fire near the University of Oregon campus was the work of an arsonist.

Back in early October someone set fire to nearly a dozen dumpsters.

Police say it’s hard to tell if this newest fire is related to those. But EPD says it knows Monday night’s was arson because the dumpster was pushed up against the nearby building with the intent of having the building catch on fire.

A university student reported seeing a man in an alley smoking a cigarette before the fire started.

The fire didn’t spread to the apartment. EPD says it will look at nearby security cameras to see if it captured anything suspicious.
