Police Look for Attempted Kidnapper

EUGENE, Ore. — A toddler is safe after her mother pried her from the clutches of a kidnapper Tuesday night.

Eugene police are still looking for the man who broke into the home and tried to take the girl.

Police say the incident happened in a neighborhood off River Road. The toddler’s mother was in the kitchen when she heard the door open and her daughter scream, which is when she ran to the door.

The mother told police she saw a man reaching through the open front door, grabbing the girl. She then pulled the child away, shut and locked the door and the man ran off.

“Kudos to her. I can’t imagine any parent whose kid is about to get kidnapped, sitting back and saying I’m not going to do anything for my own safety. All of us are going to jump in and do whatever it takes to keep the child from getting kidnapped,” said Lt. Sam Kamkar, Eugene Police Department.

Police are still looking for the suspect, who is described as a thin, white man, in his 20s around 6’2″ tall. The mother says he was wearing a baseball hat, jean shorts and a dark shirt.

If you have any information about the case, call Eugene police. Otherwise, investigators just remind everyone to keep their doors and windows shut and locked.
