Police Party Patrols Busy Over Weekend

EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene police put their party patrols in full gear over this first weekend back. A total of 42 people were cited or arrested.

Thirty-one of those were University of Oregon students. Police said there were 19 open container citations, 14 of which were UO students. There were 11 minors in possession, and eight were students. Two students were cited with DUIIs.

EPD says these numbers are pretty similar to last year’s.

“Alcohol and poor decision making often leads to things like riots and very hazardous events, and we try to avoid those by conducting proactive party enforcement,” said Lt. Doug Mozan, Eugene Police Department.

Police say six stops were for prohibited noise and all were students. The city passed the social host ordinance in January, so this is the first start to a new school year where students must follow the rule.
