Police Prevent Spring Break Break-ins

EUGENE, Ore. — Spring break is typically when crime activity increases near the University of Oregon.

For anyone who hasn’t left town yet, the University of Oregon Police Department is reminding students to remove valuables from their cars and make sure their residences are secure–doors and windows locked.

“We want to make sure people are closing blinds and making sure people can’t see in through their windows and see what possessions they may have,” said Kelly McIver, UOPD Communications Director.

Last spring break, Eugene police responded to five burglaries, five car thefts and one stolen vehicle. Those numbers are significantly down from 2009. EPD attributes the decrease to crime prevention programs and increase patrol in the area.
