EUGENE, Ore. — A man wanted for numerous crimes led police on a chase through a west Eugene neighborhood Saturday afternoon. Officers say they finally had to tase the man before taking him into custody.
Police say officers had been looking for Brent Welding since at least Friday. Officers wouldn’t confirm what Welding was wanted for.
Police spotted Welding’s white pickup truck around 2 p.m. Saturday. They tried to stop him but he sped off, leading officers on a chase into a west Eugene neighborhood.
“Officers pursued, ending up eventually at Chancellor and Throne, where the suspect then jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot and he was captured just about a block away from here after a Taser was deployed to stop him,” says Lt. Carolyn Mason with Eugene Police.
Police found meth and burglary tools in Welding’s car.
Welding has been at the Lane County Jail numerous times. He’s been charged on three separate occasions for being a felon in possession of a firearm and once for eluding police by car and on foot.
