Police Search for Assault Suspect

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Police are still looking for a man who allegedly assaulted an elderly man outside a Springfield church Wednesday.

Roy Thomas and his wife, Susan, were setting up for a weekly Bible study at the Trinity Baptist Church on B Street, when Thomas says he saw a man doing something to the front of his car out in the parking lot.¬†When Thomas came out to see what was going on, he says the suspect beat him to the ground. That’s when his wife called 911.

“My husband has been in the neurological unit since Wednesday, and he doesn’t remember any of this. It was really scary, and my concern is that some little lady could have been assaulted by him and he’s a pretty good sized guy,” said the victim’s wife, Susan Thomas.

Thomas is being treated for a fractured skull at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.

The suspect is still on the loose and is described as 5’10”, with long reddish hair.
