They say last week someone shot a large, black-tailed buck and then left it to waste alongside Hawkins Lane.
Officers say neighbors woke up to the sound of gunshots at about 3 a.m. Friday. One witness saw the suspect spot-lighting the buck.
Police say hunting in a neighborhood is extremely dangerous, and that’s just one of the reasons they’re concerned.
“They didn’t cut the head off. They didn’t take the meat. So the meat went to waste, we weren’t able to Salvage it. A lot of times we’re able to salvage it to the Eugene Mission So that some people can actually benefit when things are poached. but they just shot it and left it to waste,” said Trooper Ed Imholt, Oregon State Police.
A $250 award is being offered through the Oregon Hunters Association for any information that could lead to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call the Turn-In-Poacher TIP Line at 800-452-7888 or OSP Trooper Ed Imholt at (541) 868-5056.
