COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. — Police have made an arrest in connection to a late night shooting on Tuesday at the Westwood Lumber Company in Cottage Grove. The Lane County Sheriff’s office says 19-year-old Emily Sattig admitted to opening fire on the lumber mill’s caretaker.
Investigators say she went to the mill with the intent of killing the victim due to an ongoing disagreement they had. She reportedly opened fire on the victim after asking him to open a gate on the property.
Lane County Sheriff’s Office received a call just after 10 p.m. Tuesday night from the caretaker of Westwood Lumber Company on Saginaw Road and Highway 99. He said he had been shot. When police arrived, they were unable to find the suspect.
“[There were] lots of different obstacles, concrete barriers. It’s a mill that used to be operated so there’s lots of nooks and crannies to look around, so we asked for assistance from Oregon State Police, and Cottage Grove Police came up and assisted us with the search in the area as well,” said Sgt. Steve Segosky with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim was transported to RiverBend Hospital. He’s now recovering with non-life threatening injuries.
