Lane County sheriff’s deputies are on the lookout after a report of a stolen car in Junction City.
A deputy spotted the vehicle near the intersection of Territorial Highway and Highway 126 in Veneta at about about 6 a.m. He attempted to pull over the driver. A high-speed chase ensued behind the strip mall, but investigators say the driver lost control of the red Mustang and ended up in the brush and hit an electric box. He then took off.
Six deputies and a canine unit are still canvassing the area.
“Shortly after the search initiated we did locate a firearm and a piece of clothing a short distance from where the vehicle is there,” said Sgt. Steve French, Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
Again, the suspect is still at large. He’s described a white male with a thin build in his 20s or 30s. Because the car hit the utility box, Emerald People’s Utility District shut down power to the strip mall so investigators could safely remove the vehicle. At 9 a.m., the power was still out.
